Biography of Bill Richards

Bill Richards got his start in music on trumpet at age 10. Being a devoted fan of funk and rock, he picked up the bass when he was 17 and was immediately hooked on the instrument.

While attending college, Bill co-founded and played trumpet with the funk band, The Flavor Kings. After leaving the Kings, he finally put down the trumpet and made bass his main instrument. He received his music degree from Tulane University, and co-founded and toured with Afroskull, a mostly-instrumental mix of heavy rock and non-stop funk.

After a 5-year journey and amicable split with Afroskull, Bill remained in New Orleans to make his living playing bass around the city. He played with former Hanson sideman Ravi, Kingsnake Boogie, John Autin, Dirty Mouth, Sgt. Dork, Hagus, Lani Ramos as well as having his solo project, Just A Bill.

After Hurricane Katrina, Bill lived in Austin where he played and recorded with young blues/pop guitar wiz, Brandon McHose. He returned to New Orleans in November 2005, and is now freelancing in and around New Orleans.
